The reasons behind taking part in research or survey vary from one person to another. One crucial question that a participant can be asked is “What is the main reason behind taking part in the research?” and “Were you coerced, or you took part willingly.” As a participant, I would indicate that I participate in focus groups without being paid. However, the experiment ran to determine whether paying people will affect their willingness to participate might show that most of them would like to benefit from the studies, which is unethical.

A majority of the research studies call for voluntary participation, and when the respondents are offered with money or any other valuables, they will alter their rational thinking. This leads to ethical problems that need to be dealt with to avoid any negative impact on the outcomes of the research. As a researcher, I would pose another question which clarifies the ethical consideration of the survey. This would be “Do you feel comfortable answering questions after being paid to do so?” The most probable response from this question is on the affirmative. This is because people are not willing to admit that the commercial offering would affect their decisions in any way. However, the main impact would be felt with inconsistent responses which show that voting patterns would be affected in the 2019 Federal Elections if the respondents are paid to take part in the polls.

By choosing the right methodological and ethical questions to ask, one would determine the credibility of the results. Also, I will make sure that the questions do not depict any bias and are not sensitive. Therefore, these questions are meaningful since they systematically draw the respondents’ opinions regarding the issue at hand.
