Moral Panic Reply

With the moral panic created by the media after the mass suicides in Bridgend, people’s perception about Bridgend changed. In my thinking, anybody would be worried to hear that there is a internet suicide curt as the media asserted. I do not think anybody would wish to be in an area where such a curt exists. After reading the so many stories of suicide in Bridgend. I think people had a change of perception about Bridgend. However, after learning about the kind of social issue that exists in the town, one tends to have a feeling of compassion and empathy towards the people of the town. Bridgend has the highest rate of suicide in Britain. This proves that there are social issues that course this.

As Gordon (2008) wrote, almost everybody in the streets of Gordon knows someone who committed suicide. A major social issue in Bridgend is the lack of youth focus groups. There used to be five focus groups for the youth but the funding was withdrawn and only on exists.  An area with such a high suicide rate needs focus groups for counselling (Gordon, 2008).  The town lacks the necessary facilities to offer help to those who need help. These people are left on their own. Most of the people especially the youth do not know how to deal with feelings such as depression and if not well handled, they end up committing suicide. This is the kind of scenario existing in Bridgend.

The moral panic changed people’s perception about Bridgend but those keen enough to search for the truth about the area had a more positive perception. There are various social issues in the town that affects people especially the youth.
