More Television, Less Communication

More Television, Less Communication

Introduction

Television is one of the most common technological devices because it exists in four out of every five homes. Likewise, it contains entertaining programs that could keep viewers glued to the screen for a long time. It is also informative because it has many news and documentary channels that one could watch. However, televisions have affected the social nature of humans because it destroys communication among them.

Firstly, it reduces the amount of time that families spend to communicate with each other. Television is very addictive, and it causes family members to replace interaction time with the shows. Earlier, parents used to tell stories to children after dinner; however, they now prefer to watch shows such as football instead. As a result, children have to learn social skills from the programs on air because parents are not interacting with them. Thus, families spend more time following up on favorite programs than communicating with each other.

Secondly, television reduces communication among friends. Five decades ago, children spent more time together playing and having sleepovers. Most neighborhoods had well-furnished playgrounds that enabled children to play and enjoy themselves. Playing together helped them to meet and communicate often because it is an interactive form of entertainment. However, kids in the 21st century express themselves less because they prefer to watch cartoons and movies instead. Consequently, television has significantly destroyed communication among friends.

Conclusion

Television is still an essential entertainment tool in most families. However, it destroys communication in society gradually. People that spent time together previously prefer to watch a show instead. People should learn to moderate the amount of time spent watching television. Similarly, Families and friends should learn to communicate more often if they want to sustain a healthy relationship.
