Norms

Norms is an accepted way of doing things or behaving is agreed and most familiar to the majority of people in society. I believe that a particular social situation is the most significant factor as to whether people will conform to a specific norm or not. It is not a personality in an individual. When children are born, they find themselves in an environment with different kind of people who observe a particular type of rules in that society. Therefore, as the child grows up, he or she will get used to the way of life of that new environment. The child learns what is right and wrong from the parents, friends and other family members. For example, if the child grows in a situation where other older children insult older people, I believe the same child will not respect other people when he grows up.

Authority is defined as legal power. It is that power given to a person legally through the constitution. I believe that there is no excuse of not obeying someone who is the authority. It is the moral obligation of every citizen in the society to obey their superiors especially those who are in power. Failure to do so will be a breach of the constitution.  Unlike power, authority is recognized in the constitution; therefore, people who go against this are breaking the law. People in authority gives direction in society on what to do and those things to keep off. If a person is not satisfied with the instructions of a person who is in authority, there is a correct channel to challenge that decision.
