The scriptures from the book of Philippians chapter 2 are amongst the most fascinating texts in the New Testament. It is important to note that the book of Philippians is amongst the many epistles by Paul to different churches.  In these epistles, Paul was categorical on what was expected in Christian living and to a great extent can be classified as a manual where Christians should look for directions to live in accordance to God’s will. The verses 1-11 can be classified as the ultimate paradigm of genuine Christian mindset and depicts the Christ’s life as the as the premier manifestation of the character of God.  The scripture outlines the Christian duties and what is expected of us as Christians. The scripture has strong   emphasis on the importance of being solely focused on Christian life. It is nevertheless essential to point out that the provisions of these teachings are very much applicable in the daily life of Christians today.  ^‘’Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves’’ (Philippians 2:3).  This verse is guidance on how we are expected to live with the people and warns of being selfish, impressing others or not being humble.

The first verse of Philippians chapter two starts with asking a rhetoric question ‘’is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?’’ (Phil 2:1). For a strong Christian, the answer to the entire above question should be positive. The subsequent verses serve as guidelines of what is expected of committed Christians and hence become essential in the contemporary world. For instance, it is against the will of God being selfish or unmindful of others and we should always avoid this in our daily life. For instance in our places of work, we should be selfless and mindful of other people we interact with.  It would be against the scriptures if, for instance, you try to implicate your work mates to a scandal to make them lose their jobs. The same I love and treasure my job, I should do the same to the rest of the people since they are also sons of God. In essence, the chapter intends to teach us on importance of having brotherly love and be compassionate to others as Christ is passionate to us. Christ came to humble us, let there not be among us a spirit of pride. We must be severe upon our own faults, and quick in observing our own defects, but ready to make favorable allowances for others.
