Politics of Amish

Step 1

Amish have been in America for a long time now since their arrival in the 18th century. They are very conservative of their way of living evident on their way of living that has remained unchanged by the current change in the American government, technology and social way of living. They still hold their cultural rules unaffected by the outside world (Hostetler, 1993). Amish have their community laws which are separate to the laws of the United States Government. Despite having their laws, they abide by the majority of the USA laws like paying taxes.  Their laws do not allow them to have welfare, med care, social security number and other help given by the USA government. There had many disagreements when the USA government tried to impose laws that they wished not to follow; for example, they could not allow that education is a composer. This issue was however resolved with time.

Amish were allowed to operate their schools which only go up to eighth grade. They believe that education to that level is enough for someone to be able to trade or vocation; hence education from a textbook is irrelevant. Amish do not support military services because of their cultural belief that taking human life is illegal even when he is defending his life (Hostetler, 1993). They have a feeling that one dies or lives according to the will of God. The Amish men, therefore, do not join military service. The hard economic times have been tough for the Amish people hence making farming unreliable to them. They have hence shifted other activities like crafting, furniture, and breeding dogs. They don’t relate with the outside world well hence deal with a few specific outsiders.

Step 2

Amish people have been able to maintain their cultural believes and way of living for a long time despite the challenges of being corrupted by government policies or change in technology. The government has been trying to put pressure on them too so that they can change their way of living for example by promoting education on their people and mobilizing more of their men to join the military, but they could not agree to that. They resisted and even they manage their education system without government intervention. They don’t directly associate with the rest of the world but have little contact with the outside world.

If was to begin researching the Amish people I would start with creating a close relationship with them by either involving in a trade with them they trade mostly in crafts and furniture and because they don’t easily associate with other people trade would be the first step. After identifying one of the traders and becoming a loyal customer, I would start by initiating small talks that would help me get close to him. Continuous talks daily will make us close to him. I would be asking questions that don’t make him feel very uncomfortable and ensure that he does not think that he his disclosing a lot to me. With time I would be able to learn more about their culture, social life, how they rule themselves and their religious beliefs.

Step 3

The American government is well structured federal government governed by a constitutionally elected president. The president is voted in by the electoral college who have representatives from each state. The president is the head of the government and commander in chief.  The government has the congress and the house of representatives that are responsible for making laws that govern the people. The vet in the president appoints, pass bills and represent the people at the national level. The government has many security forces with each security forces tasked with protecting the people from internal and external attacks. There are those that have their jurisdiction go to the federal level other to a particular city while the military protects from external attacks and help during an emergency.

Step 4

The USA has no particular culture since it has many immigrants from different countries all over the world (Smith, 2018). Very few people have a specific culture because of the many ethnic communities that are mixed up in the region. It has different languages with English and Spanish dominating the majority. Their people of different races in the USA with the majority being the whites the rests are the blacks and the Latinos. The USA has many institutions managed by the national government like the primary schools, high school, and university colleges. The national government also manages hospitals with insurance cover being composer.

  1. USA government structure
  2. The president was elected by the electoral college together with the vice president
  3. The president nominates the cabinet
  • The president heads the armed forces and holds the executive office
  1. President appoints the judges and the supreme court judges.
  2. The Congress approves president appointments.

The public institutions in the USA

  1. Hospitals
  2. High schools and primary schools
  • University colleges.

Amish have for many years lived in the USA but still hold their cultural beliefs. They exist indecently and follow some of the government laws that don’t contradict theirs. The USA government is a federal government ruled by a president elected by the electoral college. The country is governed by the constitution that is amended to fit the changes that occur.
