An executive summary is the first thing that is included in a final report after the contents page.It is a synopsis of the main points of the report, highlighting the key features and providing the reader with aframework of the report’s essential information. Its serves the purpose of giving an overview of everything that has been written in the report, including key recommendations and conclusions so that the reader can read the summary and have a complete understanding of the contents of the entire report.It is designed to be read alone without the accompanying report, therefore, it needs to be self sufficient and can be understood in isolation.

The executive summary should begin with a paragraph that captures the reader’s attention. This may include an interesting fact, relevant statistics or history of the report. The summary should concisely outline the subject matter, the background problem and the scope of the investigation. It should also contain the approaches of analysis, the central findings, arguments and important issues raised in the discussion and the conclusion as well as the recommendations.

In the organization of the final report, the information would begin with a historical background of the problem, followed by the statement of the problem.This would explain the reason for the consulting process and put the report in context of the overall objectives.Secondly, it will include a technical background. This will contain in-depth detailsof how other firms have handled similar problems. The forth section of the report would detail a description of the consultancy analysis, development and measurements. This will mainly entail giving a brief on what the consultancy firm has done and how it did it, and to achieve this, it will give supporting details of the entire process. This part of the report forms the bulk of the report.

The results of the consultancy will also form a significant component of the report. This will predominantly include what the consultant was able to find out about the problem.In the final pages, thereport will discuss and interpret the findings. This willinvolve giving a description of what the results mean and how they relate to the overall problem.The final part of the report will present the conclusions and recommendations. This part will provide a list of solutions as well as the course of action to be taken.

The most important information in such a report would be the verification, definition and detailing of the problem,the various alternatives available to address the problem and the evaluation criteria against each. Finally, the description of the results and how they relate to the overall problem is another important component of the report. However, the most important part of the report would be the recommendations which will be assumed to be the proposed solution to the concern that the report was meant to address.
