Program Capstone: Management

Management is very important for the realization of the goals and objectives of any organization. It is the role of the management to organize and coordinating human resource and other resources to effective accomplishment of the overall objectives of the organization. The management process has four main functions which include planning, leading, controlling and organizing. It is the sole obligation of a manager to ensure that all these functions are implemented effectively(Sheldrake, 2003).

Most of the major organizations have strived to achieve organizational success. Company managers and CEOs must ensure the goals and objectives of their respective firms are achieved through proper utilization of management theory. A CEO must have a clear distinction between leading and managing. Managing must involve planning; organizing, controlling resources that helps realize the overall objective of the organization. Leading on the other hand involves expansion, influencing, assessing and pursuing results in an organization. In most cases, leading involves the human resource while in management all aspects in the organization.

A good CEO must have the ability to combine both leadership and management skills. For instance, Mr. John Freck who is the CEO of KiberNet Computer Technologies has strived to ensure the success of the company is realized every year.  Planning has been very essential in achieving the organizational objectives in this organization. This involves laying the route map to the company’s success. A good plan must indicate the expectations in an organization and how to realize the set objectives. Mr. John has over the years maintained a good schedule that outlines the objectives of the firm. He has also put in place a good mechanism of assessing how best the plan has been realized.

Organizing is another vital aspect in the management process. After setting out the plan and the objectives of the organization, it is also important to facilitate the implementation of the plan. This involves provision of the necessary resources to enable the work getting done. This process involves putting in place the necessary resources in terms of human, physical and monetary resources. Failure to good organization can be very detrimental to the success of the organization since a plan without resources cannot be successful. A good CEO must ensure that all resources necessary to the implementation of the plan are provided in a timely manner. It is also important to organize the human resource in such a way that the plan will be effectively achieved(Cole, 2004).

Controlling is another major function in the management theory. After planning and putting in place the necessary resources to the implementation of the plan, it is of paramount importance for the management of the organization to monitor the progress of the organizational objectives. Controlling function of the management involves monitoring actual performance against the planned objectives.   This is a very important aspect as it ensures that the organizations resources are channeled to the viable projects of the organization(Tengblad, 2012).

The controlling function must also involve monitoring the progress of the employees.  This is because in most cases, the company’s overall success is highly dependent on the individual performance of the employees. Mr. John has been very proactive in assessing the performance of the key employees in the organization. Proper control measures have been instrumental to the overall success of the organization.

Even as the management tries to monitor the performance of human resource, it is also vital for the management to provide motivation to the employees. This enables the staff and employees in the company to work hard towards achieving organizational goals. This can be achieved only if the CEO offers good leadership to the organizations employees. At the moment, most of the employees in this organization do not feel fully motivated due to little remuneration. However, it is believe that this will change soon as the company grows.

Part two

Leadership is a very important aspect in the success of the organization. It is worth noting that leadership is in most cases associated with human resource. Generally, all managers are supposedly ought to have good leadership skills; however this is not always the case. Good leadership must focus in motivating the staff through inspiration and creation of a common vision. A good leadership will lead to success in the organization as all the energy in the organization will be channeled in one organization. On the other, poor or bad leadership will be costly to my hinder realization of the objectives of the organization(Cole, 2004).

An example of a good leader is Mr Martin who is the regional director Helena’s agencies. The director has steered the company to great heights over the past few years. The leadership of this man has been exceptional since he has put the organizational interest ahead of his own.  He has also outlined a good road map to the success of the organization. There is also a good communication strategy in the company.

Bad leadership has also been experienced in major organizations before. This is where the leaders think of themselves as super humans and lack proper communication with the subordinate. They also lack vision and inspiration to the subordinate. They are also uninspiring thus making realization of organizational goals a tall order. Example of such leaders is Mr Titus who is the director of precious flights ltd. This company collapsed as a result of poor leadership and internal wrangles.
