Progressive Era

An era of intense social and political reforms that aimed to make progress towards a better and ideal society. The reformers wanted to use the federal government power to eliminate business practices that were unfair and unethical, deal with corruption and finally stop the adverse effects that came with industrialization. The aspects of this period that I consider to be the most progressive was the strengthening of workers and consumers protection and the very thought of women being allowed to vote.

The progressive reformers influenced the passage of some of the very substantial legislation which included the nineteenth amendment giving women the right to vote. Pure food and drug act of 1906 strengthened the protections for workers and consumers by creating the food and drug administration that guaranteed the safety of all products including food and pharmaceuticals.

One of the significant factors that initiated and contributed to women earning their rights was the nineteenth amendment that gave women the right to vote. That is why this amendment was such a big deal and gave women a glimpse of hope that everything will be okay and they were heading in the right direction. An era where the corrupt, unethical business practices and adverse effects of industrialization were being fought, it was only fair to set a strong foundation for this fight. The workers had to be strong and healthy; that is why the formation of food and drug administration was an essential step to this fight and era.
