Pursuit of Happiness

The search of Happiness movie is an American movie whose basis is on the bibliography of the true life-story a homeless salesman by the name Chris Gardener. The man and his son are homeless for one year after which he becomes a billionaire. This paper explains the double ABC-X module based on the film as illustrated through economic stress and homelessness, parental stress and coping.

Gardener faces an economic crisis where he struggles financially to support his family which consists of a wife and a son. It presents the pre-crisis that Gardener experiences and the state of lack of money make him go through a lot of challenges before a turnaround occurs in his life. He also experienced homelessness after the death of his wife who died of cancer (Smith & Muccino, 2006). Chris Gardener had to spend many days walking around the world speaking to people about different things such as convincing people that they are not necessarily the products of their childhood. The B factors that Gardener experiences get illustrated through the meaning of the movie which gives more emphasis to “getting” than “not having”. After the crisis, Gardener life gets transformed from rags to riches. He finally gets a well-paying stockbroker job through which he earns a lot of money (Smith & Muccino, 2006). Even though the movie has been argued to portray the picture of homelessness as a clean experience, it was not the intended reason. The film explores the B factors experienced by Gardener after the crisis.

During the pre-crisis, Gardener’s resources included the little amount of money he raised which was hardly enough to feed his family. He used the money to pay for a nursery for his son so that he could leave him there and go to work. After the crisis, Chris Gardener’s resources include the stockbroker job which was a transformation for his life. He utilizes these B factors to improve his life as well as that of his son.

Gardener’s perception of the pre-crisis is that life that is full of challenges. He relates the pre-crisis to the state of homeless and financial instability which made him go through a lot of depressing financial crisis. On the other hand, he perceives the post-crisis as consisting of C factors which get attributed to coping and financial stability. Gardener achieves the post-crisis after he becomes a stockbroker after he gets motivated by a character by the name Chris who is a rich man even though education had not determined his wealth (Smith & Muccino, 2006).

The coping process by Gardener has not been an easy one. However, he can overcome parenting and financial stresses as well as homelessness by his determination. He is determined to transform his life even if it means going back to school. He is encouraged by Chris that it is not all about school (Smith & Muccino, 2006). Some of his coping strategies includes his determination to be good with people as Chris had previously suggested. It is evident through the many years he spends relating with people and giving his opinions and ideas to them, most of which made him a famous man (Smith & Muccino, 2006). He also embraced his efforts and never doubted his moves. These moves made his vision which was more of a dream become a reality.

In conclusion, the movie is a clear illustration of the American dream becoming true. It explains the available possibilities of achieving and turning individuals’ lives around even when they have nothing at the beginning. Besides criticism, the movie gets ranked as one of the best motivational and inspiration types in American history.
