Readings on Ancient History and Architecture

In the previous week, I came across numerous readings which addressed the ancient history. One of them is the Sacred Sites of Kingship: The Maydan and Mapping the Spatial-Spiritual Vision of the Empire in Safavid Iran. In this writing, it is evident that public squares and various other architecturalfeatures have been used in Persia to deliver spiritual significances.

One of the sections that I have not understood in this reading is how urban-based buildings were set up in ancient times. In the past, technology was not as good as in the contemporary world. Thus, developing advanced structures required a lot of innovative practice on the side of the architects. However, while looking at economic motivations, I believe that the innovators and those who came up with architectural interventions had a lot of factors to consider when developing such buildings. One of them is the social identity.

What fascinated me most from the reading is how buildings have been used to remember past occurrences. One of them is ayvan located in Iran. It has been used to refer to the Sasanian King KhosrowAnushirvan. It is incredible to see how modern architects could master the ancient styles and historical developments. This suggests that they read a lot about ancient history and have personal ties with the religion. In this case, Islam has been used to make such memories vivid, and it can be seen in the royal-sponsoredFridayMosques.

Finally, the reading was hard to understand, and one had to refer to other related writings to enhance comprehension. I look forward to learning more about the spatial-spiritual vision in architecture. Most of these would be related to Islam and ancient history.
