Reflection Letter on the Class Experience

Reflection Letter on the Class Experience

Dear

At the beginning of this class, I had mixed feelings since I did not know what to expect. However, I have come to enjoy the class more than I expected. Through the semester I have experienced challenges, difficulties and importantly a feeling of accomplishment anytime I am done with an assignment. During my high school years, English was not my cup of tea as I struggled with writing essays, but that has now changed.

Among the progress that I have been able to make is improving my reading and writing abilities. The class has made it possible to assess different aspects that relate to reading and writing. I came to understand that for someone to become a good writer; they must aspire to become good readers. This seems straightforward, but it is something most students do not put into practice. The more I started reading, the more I saw improvements in my writing abilities.

The class also made me reflect my reading and writing prospects from middle class all the way to college. This gave me the ability to identify weaknesses that made it difficult for me to concur these prospects desirably. I have been able to make some adjustments now, and I have improved in both my reading and writing abilities.

Literary analysis is not new to me, but through this class, I have been able to get a better understanding. It is quite fascinating as it gives you the opportunity to read and analyze another person’s work. I enjoyed the critical thinking aspect that is brought by the analysis. Now I find it easy reiterating another person’s thoughts without having to work extraneously. Writers usually use various words to imply different things, but this can only be understood through further interpretation. That is why it is possible to identify a variety of themes in a single piece of writing.

I found the concept of learning about “word choice” very helpful. I learned that there are those words that one would use, and the writing becomes exceptional. Words might have a similar meaning, but there is one that fits a certain context better than the others.

I also found the topic on habits of the mind helpful for my reading and writing prospects. This is because habits of mind entail ways of approaching learning that are both practical and intellectual. The habits of the mind make it possible for students to approach learning through an active stance. This is something that makes them succeed in different disciplines and fields. The habits of mind include openness, creativity, curiosity, engagement, responsibility, persistence, metacognition, and flexibility.

Among the weaknesses I discovered to possess at the beginning of this class was procrastination. I would wait until the final day to complete my assignments, but I came to realize that this was affecting my way of writing. It was not possible to write formidable content within that period. After making the adjustments to write my papers early, the level of writing has now improved.

I still have a lot to learn to help polish the pieces, but I have a favorable foundation through this class. I plan to continue making positive improvements with regards to my reading and writing attributes. I have come to understand that self-improvement is more of an ongoing process that I strive to accomplish.

Yours Faithfully,
