Shipping Assessment Report

Company Name:

This report will be submitted to the regional meeting in Montreal. The focus of the report is to address the shipping challenges and try to suggest some of the new approaches that can provide easy and effective shipping of product in North America. The reason for seeking a new method of shopping products is as a result of the new contract with the US that opens up new markets. These new markets have led to increased shipping and thus increasing the pressure on the Canadian ports. To get information on the shipping challenges we shall explore the company shipping reports and other reports from some of the shipping ports around the country. However, the report is limited to only Canadian jurisdiction. Due to the limited access to other regions the scope of the report would only seek to focus on other options for shopping within Canada. The report will provide the analysis of the current situation, alternative options, and findings including the recommendations. The report will be written under the supervision of Ann Thomas. And be submitted to the meeting at Montreal for approval.

Current situation

The expanding market for shipping of product to and from the US is presenting new opportunities and challenges as well. Over the years the Canadian ports have been able to serve the demand for the shipping of these products. However, one thing that seems to be presenting a challenge is the increase in the cost of shipping products. Besides, the new contract with the American organization means that more and more products would have to be shipped through these ports ((Brown 2015). Some of the challenges that seem to be facing the current ports include

Congestions in the ports

The high cost of shipping

Lack of adequate deep water ports in the northern slopes of Alaska

Therefore, with these challenges, there is a need to rethink on other approaches that can ensure that we can still ship out products with much ease. Thus with these changes, there is a need to develop new strategies and find new shipping methods. The report will seek to recommend some of the approaches that the business can consider to solve the issue of shipping.

Alternatives

While the current shipping options are presenting several challenges, there is a need to focus on some choice. Some of the alternative cities that offer shipping services include California and Texas.

Some companies offer freight shipping services between Western Canada and California. Some of these companies provide to ship between major cities in California and Canada that include Los Angeles, Vancouver, San Francisco, San Diego, and Calgary (Gessner & Snodgrass 2015).

There are also shipping service between Texas and western Canada. The freight shipping services in Texas to western Canada include Dallas, Huston, Vancouver, and Calgary.

The shipping border towns that might be effective are Texas and Los Angeles.

For shipping of products, there is a need to fill the quotation. Most important there is a need to provide the shipping documentation.

In considering other options, the Canadian postal services might be an option to consider. However, there are limitations to using postal services due to the size of the goods that need to be transported. Therefore, it would be essential to focus on other shipping companies.

Criteria

To select an option for consideration, the following measures would be used.

Cost- the option to be selected should be cheaper

Efficiency- the selected options should provide more ability as compared to the current approach

Convenience- the selection solution should reduce the accessibility of shipping products between the two countries.

Findings

Cost– to reduce the cost of transportation and shipping the focus on Flat deck trucking and van Trucking seems to offer better solutions. The cost of shipping has always gone high as a result of products taking too much time in the ports. However, with these options, the value will definably go down (Brown 2015).

Efficiency- focusing on these methods of shipping will also offer more capability. Reduction of the time for shipping products ensures that products can reach the destination with little or negligible delays.

Contingency– with the focus on these approaches of shipping products, it is possible to overcome the challenges that come with the filling of papers required to ship products. Some of the company’s offer online mixture and tracking of their freight and this offer more convenient (Maoh et al., 2016)

However, while taking these options might come with various advantages, there are still some challenges that might arise. Delays during transportation might emerge due to accidents and bad weather (Gray 2016). However, the advantages with the model are that some of these challenges might be mitigated with much ease. Therefore the mode is much more effective.

Conclusion and recommendations

There is a need to shift to other shipping models for products. The suggestion that seems more plausible is the use of Dry van trucking and Flat Deck Trucking

The reason for focusing on these approaches is that they would provide a better way to ship products between the cities. Besides, the procedures ensure that the product might reach the destination with the given time.

Overcoming the challenges of the crowded ports would require the use of these shipping modalities.
