Social Factors of Violent Death

In the United States, violent death is contributed by many social factors. In my opinion, the following are the top three most significant social factors. First, violent death is caused by low levels of education. The education level of an individual impact the decision to commit a crime. Education through its civic elements provides moral support; therefore, individuals with low level of education may have decreased moral stances, which increases their decisions to commit suicide. For instance, the 2000 research shows that an estimated 240,000 deaths in the U.S. were caused by low education (Galea, et al., 2011). The second cause is racial segregation. African American who live in regions with the highest levels of racism experience higher mortality rates. The black population is perceived to be violent, drug traffickers, criminals and that is why there is excessive use of force by police. Research shows that approximately 176,000 deaths are attributed to racial segregation (Galea, et al., 2011). The third cause is individual-level poverty. Individuals living in poverty are likely to have dropped out of school. Increased poverty induces one to commit a crime, which includes participating in robbery and violence. The 2000 report shows that approximately 133,000 deaths were caused by individual-level poverty (Galea, et al., 2011).

Regarding causes of violent death, the similarities and differences between the U.S and developing nations include the following. First, in both countries, poverty is one of the leading causes of high mortality rates. Due to poverty, many individuals tend to engage in crimes, and they end up being killed (Khapaeva, 2017). Also, among the urban poor, increased violence may result in the use of force by police. Second, in both countries, low education is attributed to violent death. The rate of school dropouts is high in developing nations. The lack of education reduces the moral stance of a person thus inducing them to commit crimes through several channels including robbery. The difference between the U.S. and developing nation concerns racial segregation. Violent deaths caused by racial segregation is high in the U.S compared to developing nations (Khapaeva, 2017). Besides, most developing countries do not practice racial discrimination.
