Social Pressure on Old People of LGBT

Social Pressure on Old People of LGBT

Introduction

The essay is about the social pressure that individuals of the LGBT group face in the society. Most of them are isolated by their friends and their immediate family members. I studied the topic from various journals and databases that have sufficient information on the issue. Most of the information that was used was from first-hand sources. Thus, making them reliable sources. From this study, I found that most individuals are discriminated against because their actions are against the morals of society. Besides, most of these individuals do not get the support they require because most individuals do not associate with this group. The laws should protect these individuals because they are at risk of being harmed by other members of the community.

Growing old can be a daunting task for all people including the LGBT group. It is because people need help as they become old. However, the LGBT representatives are isolated by their friends, family members, and the entire community. It is because their behaviors are considered to be unethical as they are against the community morals. Moreover, most religions are against the actions of the LGBT group. As a result, these people are marginalized when it comes to the issues of social care and health services. At times, they are denied access to healthcare in institutions and care homes because of their sexuality. Their next of kin are also afraid to be associated with these individuals. It is because of the shame that is related to this lossof morals. It is also evident that the old people of the LGBT group risk facing adverse consequences because of their position. They risk being arrested because their behavior is considered to be immoral.

Moreover, others might insult them by describing them as mentally ill. It is because they engage in actions that are unbelievable to many individuals. Therefore, they always live in fear because of the intimidation they face from other members of the public. Research also shows that the rights of the LGBT individuals are not respected in most regions of the world (Greene et al., 2018)

Older LGBT individuals continue facing social isolation. Therefore, most of them are likely to be single while more than 41% of this population lives alone. In this case, they opt to keep it like a secret which they are not ready to reveal to other individuals. They are generally reluctant to share this information with the anti-LGBT groups. Moreover, these individuals do have children, and they may be separated from their immediate family members. Therefore, older individuals end up suffering after losing their social ties. It is because they cannot work and have to rely on young individuals to support them to get their needs. Age discrimination is also another challenge that is faced by the older LGBT community. These people are normally discriminated and isolated by the younger generation who is keen on upholding society’s morals. It will also take long before the community accepts them. It is because of the lousy attitude that individuals have towards the LGBT people. This essay will focus on the challenges that the older LGBT face all over the world and what can be done to correct the situation.

Discussion

The main findings of this investigation reveal that the laws of UK do not protect the old people of LGBTQ. It is the reason why they face a lot of discrimination from the public. They are also condemned and openly disrespected by the society. Therefore, most of them cannot expose their problems because of the fear of being intimidated. These findings show that there is a need to amend the laws in the future to incorporate regulations that safeguard minority rights. The results also demonstrate that society’s morals play an essential role in determining the type of treatment that LGBTQ older people receive from the members of the public. It is because many individuals living in the UK are ready to uphold the community’s morals regardless of their political or religious affiliations. The findings also indicate that it takes long for the family members and friends to understand the situation of older people of LGBT. It is because they rarely disclose such information to other individuals because of the fear of being isolated.

Moreover, older adults are isolated and they do not get any support from their immediate family members. Therefore, they are likely to experience depression during this time. Besides, their health will also deteriorate as they might not get enough food and healthcare services. The results further demonstrate that there are no adequate laws that might help in protecting LGBT rights. This is because their rights are no longer considered to be useful to society. Finally, it might take a longer duration before these individuals are accepted by society. It is because of the political messages the public gets from their leaders which makes them reject such behaviors in the community. Such information influences the members of the public to develop a bad attitude towards the LGBT group.

The findings are essential as they will help in coming up with solutions on how to solve the challenges that older LGBT people in society.  For example, the problem of discrimination can be eliminated by creating public awareness of people’s rights. The outcomes can also be used in future research, thus, saving the time of the investigator. The analysis can also assist in giving the elderly the help they require after understanding their needs. The study can also help in coming up with strategies that will convince the public to recognize, respect, and accept older LGBT people. Finally, the findings can assist in knowing the type of treatment that these categories of individuals require. Similar studies also indicate that the number of LGBT group members has not only been increasing among the older generation. It is because of the liberties that people are allowed to enjoy across the globe. It has influenced the older generations making them participate in activities that are against society’s morals.

However, this research has several limitations (Orel and Fruhauf, 2015). It only focused on the older individuals of the older LGBTQ representatives. Therefore, it ignores the young and middle age people in the entire research. As a result, the findings of these investigations might not be reliable to the audience. The study only gives information about the older people, even though the society contains many people from diverse age groups. The research also uses historical data which has already been overtaken by events. In most occasions, this data might not be updated thus, giving the wrong information. Additionally, historical data prevents the researcher from introducing additional information into the investigation. This can limit the scope of the research. The study ignores that there are older adults who are financially stable and who do not require help from anyone. They can feel comfortable, pay their bills and live a healthy life. Moreover, the study also assumes that older people need help because of their age. Therefore, they are ignored even though they are productive in society. This research was conducted in the UK that is one part of the world. As a result, it might not be a true representative of other parts of the globe.

In the future, it is essential to expand the research and include all the individuals from all age groups. The step will assist the investigator to understand the challenges facing LGTBQ in the future. Increasing the sample size will also help in getting reliable information since it will be a representative of a larger population. Future research should also give recommendations on how to decrease discrimination that faces elderly individuals of LGTBQ. The step will significantly assist in rectifying the situation in the future. One of the ways is by educating the public about the importance of upholding the fundamental rights of people. The second approach is discouraging the political class from talking ill about their LGTBQ individuals. The investigator should spare enough time and resources while conducting future research. This will help in attaining better results at the end of each research.

Moreover, the investigator should also embrace other methods of collecting information. Some of these approaches include the use of questionnaires and interviews. The two ways are vital as they can assist to get the opinion of the person being interviewed. Additionally, the researcher should avoid biasness in future research. It will also assist in improving the quality of the research hence, increasing confidence among the audience.  The measure will ensure that the information given is accurate. Finally, the investigator should select a manageable sample size to avoid stress while conducting the investigation.

Conclusion

The LGBTQ people still face a lot of discrimination in society. Many individuals are reluctant to accept them because they are seen as people of loose morals. They are marginalized in almost all spheres of life. As a result, they cannot access essential services such as healthcare in the community. However, findings show that the family members are not willing to be associated with the older adults. Also, most of them leave alone since they are not married and they do not have children. Their rights are also ignored and are not taken seriously by the members of the public or the state. The results of the research will assist in eliminating the discrimination facing LGBTQ people. However, the research has some weaknesses since it used a small sample size. Besides, it only focused on elderly individuals in society (Putney et al., 2018). The study also used historical data which might be outdated. Therefore, the researcher should consider increasing the sample size in the future. The primary goal is to incorporate other age groups that were left out in this investigation (Shepherd et al., 2016).

Moreover, the researcher should avoid the element of biasness while conducting the research. This is because it might result in a conflict of interest thus, compromising the outcome of the study. Furthermore, the researcher should handle a manageable sample size during the investigation to avoid confusion. Lastly, it will assist the researcher to save time while conducting the study.
