Social Security and Health Care

The two policies I chose for this discussion are policies on social security and health care. Regarding health care policy, the framework of the president is building on Affordable Care Act. The new improvements aim to decrease the health care expenditure (The White House, 2011). According to the President, the plans being implement should not shift costs to seniors (The White House, 2011). Similarly, the President proposes plans that would help in strengthening Medicare and Medicaid. Since health care policy is a problem to the society, the appropriate type of evidence for this policy is the anecdotal evidence. This evidence will help in convincing and motivating people in the debate about the policy.

Second, with social security, the view of the President is that the policy is not a problem to the society. The long-term challenges facing Social Security are because of the aging population and the wage base of the Social Security; therefore, it is better for the government to address this issues earlier to benefit the interests of the future generation (The White House, 2011). Because of the long-term challenges, the President supports the bipartisan efforts that aim to improve social security for many years. The appropriate type of evidence for this policy is the empirical scientific evidence. With this evidence, people could directly or indirectly observe the outcome of the social security. People can get information from the media and stories about the significance of social security.
