Taking Care of The Needy

Abstract

The aging, homeless, and some sick people are some of those who are in need of help from those around them. The family is usually the primary source of this help because it is the closest. The church and the community also play a role in ensuring the wellbeing of the needy people. All the three units have some specific parts that they are expected to play with the aim of helping the needy. The family may facilitate the course by first helping those closest to them like the elderly. An adult child can take the initiative to assist his or her old parents. Some situations, however, may lead to family members seeking help from elsewhere. This point is where the church and the community come in. The church may help by providing some essential services like feeding and a place to sleep. The community, on the other hand, may generate the resources necessary for this work. Therefore, everyone has a part to play in helping the needy.

Taking Care of The Needy

A needy person is someone who is not able to meet his or her basic needs either because of their age, poor background, or domestic conflicts. As such, they require the help of the church, the community, and their family to overcome these challenges. The role of the family, the community, and the church in this scenario depends on how one’s perspective. It is usually expected that the family becomes the first to offer help after which the community and the church can come in. However, this is not always possible because some families cannot afford to assist because of financial difficulties or the barriers created by domestic conflicts (Erickson & Wilhelm, 2017).

The role of the family in helping the needy varies with the kind of needs required by the person. For instance, in the case of the aging, the adults in the family should be the first to ensure that these people are afforded a comfortable environment. An adult child should take care of his or her aging parents because at their age; they cannot do as much as they did when they were younger (Liu et al., 2016). Also, taking care of these people at home makes them feel more loved by their family than if they were to be sent to nursing homes. The family should also act as a role model to the children by playing a role in volunteer programs. Bringing up the children in an environment where everyone is treated with compassion creates a better tomorrow. These children will grow up knowing that it is essential to give to those who don’t have because, as the Bible says, the more you give, the more you’ll receive.

The church also has a crucial role in ensuring the wellbeing of the needy. The primary role of the church is to act as an example to other institutions by being at the forefront of offering a helping hand (Armstrong, 2016). As stated earlier, a family is expected to take the initiative in some cases, but that is not always possible. For instance, domestic violence has led to many homeless children because they cannot stand seeing their parents fight every day. In such a scenario, the church can provide these children with somewhere to stay as they look for an alternative. Not all churches are financially capable of offering such services, but the members are expected to play a role in finding a solution. It is not a necessary action, but the Bible teaches us that the little you give could mean a lot.As written in Deuteronomy 15:11, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and the poor and needy in your land”(Armstrong, 2016). The church should always be ready to volunteer in helping the needy. The church should also provide a learning environment for both the children and adults, where they can learn about the importance of helping others.

The community, on the other hand, provides the necessary resources to enhance the process. Some churches and families are willing to help, but they do not have the financial ability to do that. Therefore, the community should be able to help where they can to ensure that the lives of the homeless, the aging, and other needy people are made comfortable. (Liu et al., 2016). Such resources include schools, hospitals, and housing facilities for the homeless. The members of the community can also come together in supporting the church projects related to the course.
