The American Civil War (1861-1865)

The American Civil War was fought between the secession of eleven states amongst which Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and other southern states battled against the United States. It was also known as the battle between the states.

The war resulted as the compromise of 1850, a debate where the southern states wanted the expansion of their slavery territories to the west while the Northern states through the U.S Congress intended to stop these slavery activities. A Fugitive Slave Act issued to the southern states which forced the northern states to become hostile and return some of the slaves who had run away from home back home.

The war started on April 14, 1861, where a fire was opened on Fort Sumter by the rebel which was the entrance of the harbor of Charleston, in South Carolina. After 34 hours of battle Maj. Robert Anderson ordered 85 soldiers to join a troop which was being commanded by P.G.T Beauregard where other states joined the confederate later. By this time, Lincoln was the head of the United States where he ordered 7500 young men from the military to serve in the army for three months to breakdown the union of the 11 states fighting them.

After the succession of the 11 southern states, 23 states remained united. Amongst individuals living in the southern states were slaves, who couldn’t take part in the war thus the northern states had more people than them.Besides, they had more manufacturing plantations, railways, and they had a more organized government than the southern states. The Southern states, on the other hand, fought within their lines using the traditional ways which were commonly used in America wars and were very useful. The main reason for this battle was because the Southern States wanted to have separate territories so that they can grow their slavery business.

During the war, the two parties both the northern and the southern states encountered problems related to leadership and the issuing of commands. Davis, a graduate from the U.S Military academy, was the secretary of the war amongst the northern states working under pres. Franklin Pierce and Lincoln who had served as a legislature at the U.S House of Representatives. Davis was the commander in chief and portrayed a lot of good qualities but consumed with his pride. Lincoln, on the other hand, grew into stature and in 1864 he became the war director. He later on matured to becoming the president exploiting good and extensible qualities.

As a result, the slavery practices that was majorly practiced by the southern state ended thus leading to the antislavery period and breakthrough in the citizens of the southern state. During the war, the Confederates had challenged the Federal government of which they were defeated in the battle thus making the Federate government more superior than it was since both the southern states had to follow adhere to the rules and governance of the federal government. Also, the citizens of America were both considered the same

Amongst the negative results were massive loss of people’s lives during the war, where over 600000 individuals died leading to families loss of parents children’s becoming orphans, others remained widows and widowers thus influencing the social life of the citizens. The southern states initially were relying on slavery as their economy which left then with great impact because they were to start again rebuilding their economic status from scratch. The war also led to political adherence since the southern states had to follow now rules from above which were from the Northern states.
