The Donald Super development model

The Donald Super development model primarily focuses on the interrelationship between personal experiences and career experiences in the establishment in an individual’s self-concept. Super argues that career is a lifelong process. The assumption of these is that a person self-concept can change with new experiences over time.

Additionally, Super’s development model outlines five development stages. These stages act as guides of one’s life. The five stages are growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and decline. Each of the five stages corresponds with the critical event and denotes a time of transition. For example, the exploration stage is where an individual is trying out classes, work, hobbies. Establishment stage focuses on skill building and stabilizing work experience. In a nutshell, it is correct to say that life and an individual’s career development both span throughout the lifespan. Things that influence career paths are individual’s experiences, socioeconomic factors, and the opportunities to which the individual is exposed.

The other theorists who have voiced his idea in career development are John Holland. According to the Holland career development model, a person’s choice to a career is influenced by his or her personality traits. Holland primary argument is that people fall under six personalities. These personalities as outlined by Holland are: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Choosing a career path that fits one of these personalities is a vital step toward career well-being and success–job satisfaction $+$9$9. This is to mean that an individual is supposed to look for a career where they can use their skills and abilities to the maximum. For example, people who fall under the artistic personality should search for a career path where their art skills will be fully utilized.
