The Importance of Badminton and Badminton Courts

Participation in sporting activities is an essential aspect of our day to day lives. Sports, in general, has various benefits that come with it. For instance, it ends up boosting the physical fitness of an individual as well as emotionally. It may also build the career of an individual at the national level as well as on the international level. Individuals posses different preferences when it comes to liking a particular kind of sport. Some may love football; others may love basketball and other types of games. As for me, I have a passion for badminton which is also a form of sport. My love and passion for the badminton has prompted me to come up with a few discussion questions for my research. Why is badminton an important game? Why are badminton courts important and why should people respect the courts as well as the ones playing? Badminton is a game that should be appreciated as we are going to see in the discussion below.

Badminton is my only favorite sport because when I was eight, my father brought me to play with his friends and I did so well. So my father brought me to training and even brought me some private coaches. At first, it was not easy to train after my first lessons because I was forced to do a lot of exercises of which failing to do so would force me to do a double task. Despite the difficulties in training I managed to become a Malaysian professional badminton player. With my background as a professional badminton player, I was shocked to see the badminton court being vandalized. People were smoking and destroying the carpets and also spray painting the courts. I felt terrible because people should think about others who love to play in the courts and should, therefore, respect it.

Badminton just like tennis is a wonderful racquet sport that has many benefits to the person playing it. It is fun as well as an exciting kind of game to participate in if you are looking for an activity to stimulate the mind as well as physical fitness. Badminton when it comes to physical fitness burns fat at a rate of approximately 450 calories per hour. It is impressive as it maintains the shape and balance of an individual. The fast pace while playing improves the speed and reflexes of a person. It enhances the intelligence of the player since it increases the thinking of how the player should deceive their opponents. Playing badminton also builds up the muscles of the player such as the calves and the back muscles. The psychological benefit of badminton is that it helps in stress reduction as well as anxiety. The exercise increases endorphins, which are the neurotransmitters of the brain which has been found to improve sleep and an individual’s mood. The game promotes the social health of the participant since the social interactions while gaming will bring about a positive feeling amongst the players. Playing badminton improves the flexibility and the muscle strength of the participant. This will see the participant developing resilience as well as endurance when playing. Playing badminton can be an effortless and fun way of losing or shading off some weight.

Having seen the benefits that come along with choosing badminton as a sport to engage in, we also have to respect the arena. Courts are the platforms where the players participate in gaming. What I witnessed while playing saddened me. Being reckless and careless while in the courts is not a very healthy vice to try. It is, therefore, the participants’ responsibility to ensure that the court remains tidy and in good shape. Every sport  an arena without which the sporting activity is more likely not to take place. Badminton courts ought to be respected because they provide a platform for the participants to better themselves. Just like someone loves his/her office, the badminton players who are taking it as a career should consider the court their office.  Therefore they should ensure the court is clean and should maintain discipline at all times. They should avoid rough playing which may result in tearing of the carpets or accidents in the court. The ones who come to watch the game should also be disciplined enough not to vandalize any of the assets set in the court.

Just the same way the courts should be respected; the same respect should also be exercised amongst the participants. Etiquette is an essential aspect of any sport. The participants should, therefore, avoid using abusive language while in court. Coaches should also respect the participants by motivating them to try harder while practicing and also while playing even as a competition.

In conclusion, badminton just like any other sport has many benefits. People should respect the game as well as the ones who are participating in it. Respect yields fruitful results, and according to the above discussion, it justifies my above thesis statement that it is indeed a game that ought to be respected.
