The Importance of Strategic Controls

Technology plays a critical role in increasing efficiency for companies. The use of RFID chips has enabled companies to control their inventory (Demartini, 2014). It has increased efficiency and accuracy in keeping track of the location of products, the number sold and those that have been destroyed.

Walmart uses the inventory system and tracking technology to control their stock and generate strategic surveillance. Besides, the strategic surveillance allows Walmart to track inventory from manufacturers to warehouses, and then to their individual stores located in various parts of the world. Walmart is the largest retail store in the world; therefore, their inventory control needs surveillance that would help the company eliminate wastage thus reducing losses. Some of the losses the company might experience in a situation when they do not use surveillance include stolen goods, confusion and broken inventory.

Improvements that I might suggest for the company’s COO is to implement training programs for all supply chains, employees, and vendors. The training will help ensure efficiency and effectiveness in products departure and arrival (Demartini, 2014). RFID is significant in various ways, but Walmart should consider quality assurance since it is the most functioning act that they can use to maximize revenue.
