The Rich and the Poor

Introduction

The entire world community has been divided into two major classes based on the amount of wealth and resources people have. The rich, who own vast amounts of properties, form the high-class part of the society. Their living styles and standards easily identify them. As such, they can effortlessly and comfortably pay for the most expensive things and luxurious vacations. Their lives seem comfortable, and they do not have a lot of pressure when it comes to general needs of life such as clothing, food, and shelter. The lower division, on the other hand, is made up of people in the society who do not have sundry resources, and they struggle to afford the normal basic needs. They cannot manage to pay for any luxury, and this can be easily identified from the problems that they are suffering.

The rich people in the society are predominantly exposed to a variety of opportunities that further enhance their stability and ensure that their resources keep on multiplying. The poor, on the other hand, lack any prospects to promote their wellbeing. Even though individuals in the latter category may be very hardworking, in most cases they end up failing to make it in life, since they do not have access to favorable opportunities that could help them promote their statuses. The poor continually blame the rich in society by branding them as corrupt individuals.

However, the rich are less concerned with such arguments and comments. They blame the poor for being lazy. They tend to argue that one only gains by accepting to take risks and that the number of chances that one assumes is equivalent to the extent of gain he or she is likely to derive from such a risk.

Position

It is morally right for the rich, who fall under the first class division, to willingly and responsibly take care of the poor by sharing their resources with them, and connecting them to the various opportunities available to give them a basis for self-improvement and development.

Argument

Modus

It is worth noting that giving and helping other persons is an act of humanity, and all human beings are morally obliged to take care of each other by assisting every time they can support. The rich should take the moral responsibility of helping the poor in their society through such ways as giving them food, clothing, and other necessities that they have in surplus. Most rich people do not earn their riches from scratch, but instead, they inherit them, and all they do is to take care of such wealth, which, in turn, ensures that the wealth keeps multiplying with time. Morality dictates that people should always strive to make the entire world a better place for everyone. One of the ways through which the rich can spread joy and happiness to the hearts of the poor in the society is by sharing with them their surplus resources and making sure that they can meet their basic needs such as food and clothing.

Ponens

If the rich in society assist the poor with the good intention of making them to have better lives, and to help them overcome their suffering, then that is morally right. However, if the poor, on the other hand, are helped by the rich, and the process is only an end rather than both a means and an end, then that is morally wrong. The poor should be helped by the rich, and the process should be both a means and an end for it to be morally right.

Justifications

Explanation

It is solely no one’s responsibility to take care of others, but instead, everyone should take care of each other. The rich are not centrally responsible for making sure that the needs of the poor in the society are met, but rather, it is a moral responsibility for every given individual living in the community to take care of others, and every person around them. The poor have a moral obligation of taking care of the rich in the society by such ways as refraining from stealing from them. They can also take up simple duties and responsibilities that they may be given by the rich like artless cleaning jobs. They should ensure that they preserve the environment, and just because they do not have much property, they should not hate their wealthy neighbors and speak negatively and falsely accuse them. In so doing, the general community is likely to coexist peacefully all for the benefit of every individual.

Defense

The rich should stop neglecting and discriminating against the poor people in society. They should stop seeing them as lazy people who are afraid of taking up responsibilities and risks. They should note that most risks require that an individual sacrifice a certain amount of resources for a higher gain. However, if a person does not have the required resources that could help to benefit him or her with the associated benefits from a successful risk undertaken, then it may be impossible for the same individual to enjoy the paybacks of such a risk.

Additionally, some opportunities may not present themselves to the poor. The rich can use the poor to tap into opportunities which present themselves as risks for their benefits. Since the rich have a broader exposure to better opportunities as compared to the poor, they should commit to assisting such individuals to achieve more and improve their lives.

Objections

Explanation

One of the objections as to why the rich oppose sharing their resources with the poor is the fact that nature provides enough resources for every individual, and, thus, anyone who aspires to become rich can use the resources around him or her and capitalize on them. They also fail to understand that various risks have different returns. As such, even though the poor may decide to take up all risks that present themselves along with their ways, they may not have the potential to transform and change their statuses. As a result, considering that most rich people are presented with profitable risks, they should be willing to share such opportunities with the poor and help them to overcome their situations.

Defense

The rich in society, as well as everyone else, work to improve their personal growth and development. Becoming rich is just an outward sign of hard work and commitment that one goes through as he/she strives to find his/her way up the ladder of success. As such, all people should appreciate their sufferings, and treat them as the motivation to keep growing.

Rebuttals

Explanation

The poor should stop thinking that it is the sole responsibility of the rich to help them improve their situations. They should actively engage in looking for different ways through which their conditions can be enhanced and changed. They should take up various obligations and risks that can help them benefit from any returns that could be associated with such investments. They should stop blaming the rich for their condition and appreciate them, as well as use them as their role models to challenge and inspire themselves.

Defense

The rich, on the other hand, should embrace the spirit of helping the poor so that they link them to happiness and success. However, it is entirely unfair for the poor to depend on the rich since it is no one’s responsibility to take care of the other. However, it does not mean that the rich should not assist the poor since such an assertion would be morally wrong.

Conclusion

In conclusion, everyone in society has a responsibility of ensuring that his/her fellow human beings are living good lives and that they are happy. Moreover, it is morally right for the rich to help the poor in society by sharing both their resources and opportunities with them. However, it is morally wrong for the poor to fix their minds that it is the responsibility of the rich to share their resources with them, but rather, they should appreciate any help that the rich extend to them. They should understand that everyone in society has a role to play to build a strong and happy community. They should responsibly assist the rich in society without expecting any returns. It is only through taking moral obligations that society can be converted into a better place for all individuals.
