Barbados education system is among the best education systems in the world that focus on the welfare and success of the student. The system focuses on the welfare of the student in social, economic and political aspect growth of the student. The systems are based on the success of the student by equipping them with the necessary skills that they require to be creative. They Barbados education system has been successful in schools that it has been deployed and this is seen from the results of the students that have gone through the system.
The schools have adopted student-led analytics which is a technique that helps the students, institutions, and policymakers to understand learning outcomes better. The technique uses data gathered during learning to improve teaching and learning (Ferguson 29). The main focus in the technique is helping the students to pass a test by assisting them to work on the feedback and set learning objectives. The learners have the opportunity of setting their goals and deciding on the learning analytics they prefer to use to achieve the set goals. The technique was the best approach because it concentrated on equipping the students with the skills of solving challenges that they faced in life.
Barbados Schools implements learning with internal values which means that learning is from within and students are made to understand that learning has its foundation on their interests and needs (Ferguson 32). If the schools follow a national curriculum, they are expected to follow external values, but it does not mean that intrinsic values are neglected. The teachers incorporate the two in the system since knowledge, skills, and thinking are necessary for learning. The teaching method implemented by the schools has to integrate both the normative values as well as the internal values. Barbados learning strategy is the best to be implemented because it concentrates on the interests of both the teachers and the learners.
Learning with internal values
The learning needs to be focused on instilling values to the students that are acceptable by the society that they are absorbed in once they complete their studies. The students interact among themselves while in school, in the long run, they get skills from their colleagues (Ferguson 32). The values they get in schools should be acceptable by the societies that they come from. The Barbados schools used a model that never existed before that aimed at transforming the communities and ensuring that the citizens got value from the education that they were learning in schools.
Robinson off Ted talk
According to Sir Ken, creativity must be encouraged to have creativity while learning to cultivate a culture of innovation among the students. When students become creative thinkers, they are in a better position of solving challenges that they face in their lives (Robinson 1). Education does not necessarily mean that the person will be able to solve the challenges faced by the communities that they come from. The primary objective of education is to address challenges faced by people; hence when the education does not help in solving the challenges. Teachers need to equip the learners with the skills that will help them in their lives to identify opportunities that they can use in improving their lives.
Humanistic knowledge-building communities
Education systems must be designed to solve various challenges that the communities are facing, most of the education systems used in the world are meant to equip the learners with skills that will help them secure employment opportunities once they complete their studies (Ferguson 39). The students concentrate on passing their exams so that they can be considered during employment opportunities when they are searching for jobs. Barbados used the principle was rooted under the principle of human resource development to grow economically, socially and politically. Education transforms people, and therefore the stakeholders involved in designing the curriculum must be aware of the critical role that it plays in transforming the lives of the people for the better.
New education priorities have been set by government institutions that are responsible for managing the education sector. The new education programs being developed are concerned with how the learners are taught but not the learner get from the education (Robinson 54). The state can resume the student-led analytics the help the education stakeholders in understanding the possible outcome when a good education system is used. The analytics provide the education stakeholder the data they require to make informed decisions.
The Barbados education system was meant to ensure that the children of the slaves accessed education because the majority of them could not afford it (Ferguson 35). The system ensured that the students accessed free education for them to earn skills that they might help them solve the challenges that they face. The education system provided quality education to the children of the slaves to help them address the challenges that they faced.
Globalization is making different countries to diversify their education system to make their learners globally competitive. People move to different parts of the world in search of job opportunities; therefore, they need to have the skills to be competitive when searching for employment opportunities (Ferguson 39). The education systems of different countries are being standardized to have real skill. The more the world becomes diversified the people learn from others; hence their id increased sharing of knowledge among the people. The diversification of education increases the rate at which developments such as technologies are shared between different countries.
Transforming the Face of Teacher Education
The Barbados education system had aimed at unifying the teachers and the learners, the face to face teaching enables the student to get first-hand information from the teacher. The rich had a better education system than the poor creating a gap in knowledge among the learners (Warrican). The education system keeps on changing depending on the skills required in the market and the advancement in knowledge. The Barbados model ensured that the teachers had the skills to teach the learners successfully. Also, the students were supposed to learn the values to enable them to be able to relate with other people without conflict.
In conclusion, education stakeholders must come up with education systems that are student-centered that empower the children. Barbados education system should be embraced to offer the best solutions to challenges affecting students and emphasize on the best skills for the students. The teachers also need to be empowered with the skills necessary for teaching students effectively.
