A theory encompasses a logical way in which events or situations are understood. Therefore, it entails concepts, definitions and propositions that try to explain how the various events occur (Sharma, & Romas, 2011). Similarly, the theory gives illustrations of the relationships between the variables involved. Precisely, a theory applies to diverse situations, and its does not portray a particular topic. Therefore, it is considered significant when it is surrounded by goals, problems and practical issues. On the other hand, a model uses theory so that researchers or people can understand particular problems in certain way or context. Similarly, models are not specific to the facts as theories but it represents reality with respect to the theory. After scientist have formulated hypothesis and created simulations of certain theories, the models will be used to confirm the theories. Therefore, model functions as variables when doing experiments to test the correct nature of a theory.
I have selected the extended parallel process model (EPPM), and I believe the model will be critical in ensuring that clean water initiative is being promoted in a third world country. The model presents biased or emotional messages that communicate with fear tactics. Therefore, this will make the recipients feel susceptible to the risks being warned. The individuals in third world countries may be presented with information on the effects of drinking or using untreated water. The model explains how these people will perceive whether they are vulnerable to the threat of untreated water and whether it is harmful to them. However, when they consider the threat to be irrelevant, they will ignore the risk information given to them. Similarly, if the people in the third world country believe that they are vulnerable, they will start to fear. They will be motivated to consider the advice they were given concerning using clean water. Therefore, they will take the recommendation and hope that they might reduce the threat. Also, they will perform the promotion of initiating clean water and control the risk associated with it accordingly.
