Volcanoes

According to Ready, “a volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a reservoir of molten rock below the surface of the earth.” Volcanoes are more of vents that aid molten rock to escape from the earth surface. Volcanic eruptions normally occur when pressure coming from the gasses found on the molten rock becomes excessive, and cannot be held anymore. A volcano is capable of bringing about various damages. The ash produced can be gassy, acidic, and abrasive just to mention a few. “The acidic gas and ash can cause lung damage to small infants, to older adults and to those suffering from severe respiratory illnesses” (Ready). The ash is also detrimental to machineries such as engines. Before a volcanic eruption occurs, people should be ready to move in case there will be need for evacuation. This would mean packing supplies that are quite important during such a process. During an eruption, it is always important to follow the instructions being provided by the authorities. While doing this, it is also important to avoid areas that are likely to be affected by the volcanic ash like the river valleys. If the house is not affected by the eruption in any way, it is also advisable to stay indoors until everything is in order. After a volcanic eruption, it is good to source information from various media outlets in order to know what is happening and the instructions being passed.
