Week 7 Discussion 2: Arguments

Normative Argument

Every American including the less disadvantaged should have a choice in different health care opportunities. The population feels that they have to make a decision on regarding health insurance and the status of their family. The citizens believe that the government does not give them options to choose.

Positive Argument

New reforms in the Affordable Care Act aim to reduce the growth of healthcare expenditure thus saving additional $340 billion by 2021 and $480 billion by 2023. The new patient safety initiative and the savings through the President’s framework could lower the cost of Medicare by approximately $50 billion over the next decade thus increasing patient care.

Anecdote argument

Adding more reforms to Medicare and Medicaid is significant because it increases accountability, efficiency and improves the health care quality. The move by the president to oppose plans that may shift costs to the senior is appropriate since health care is already a challenge to many people and plans may increase the cost of health care.

Evidence argument

The framework of the President builds on the Affordable Care Act aims to reduce expenditure on health care. The initiative within the framework focus on bending the long-term cost curve, increasing the flexibility, efficiency, and accountability of Medicaid and lowering drug premiums.
