Mental handicap,

I would make an effort of making people in society equal through handicapping the individuals who possess high capabilities

• Should people be completely equal in every sense of the word, as presented in this story, or is what is given a completely different ideology for equality?

Everyone should be having equality in every aspect of their interaction; what is present in the story resembles the ideology for equality. Embracing equality in the society there results in a minimum feeling of inadequacy, envy, and jealousy. When people are completely equal in every sense of the world people would have similar thoughts, movements, preference, accessibility of resources and treatment. Having several shared interests will result in simplified converting and understanding whereby every individual settle for complete agreement. From the short story of “Harrison Bergeron” the mental aberration illustrated; people would not be in apposition to recognize that they are conditioned towards that direction. They would not seek for different society in which individuals are unequal; these ideas will cease when the metal confusion as they would change to the blissful ignorance of living in complete equality.

• Does equality mean sameness? Yes, equality would also mean sameness that is the same in every situation, in other words, equality would refer to the quality of being the same or similar in the society

• Could you see society heading in that direction? Why or why not?

No! The society is not in a position to sustain equality, As portrayed in Harrison society whereby everyone is not willing to embrace equality, but they are pushed to becoming equal. The beginning of this shift was evidenced by the remarks George made to Hazel. Vonnegut tries to illustrate this by setting up the relevant handicaps, with an attempt of trying the playing field, unfortunately after sometimes and the several amendments made the government was still not at the right position. Sustain equal wealth in an economy is something very hard, no matter the effort it is not easy to secure equality. The main point in the short story is that individual should stop wasting their efforts trying to archive the aspect of equality, and in a real sense it’s not easy to sustain

This particular story considers equality as something which is impossible to archive. In my understanding, I think having every individual equal and same the community would be annoying to some extent, because upon allocation of resources in the society whereby everybody would be In a position to access them the society would be boring.
